"Dahab" translates to "gold" in Arabic, aptly describing the golden sands adorning the beaches flanking the main bay. This morning, we depart from Dahab to Taba Heights, a journey of approximately 2 hours, where we'll board a ferry to Aqaba, a trip lasting around 1 hour. Upon reaching Jordan and completing passport control, we venture into the breathtaking desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Here, warm Bedouin hosts welcome us to a cozy camp nestled beneath towering rocks and cliffs. Spend the evening and night unwinding at the camp, savoring a delectable traditional Jordanian meal, often featuring the option of 'Zarb'—a dish typically comprising lamb and chicken cooked underground in authentic Bedouin style. Optional activities for the evening include a sunset camel ride or stargazing with telescopes.

Today, we immerse ourselves in the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, once the bustling capital until Roman conquest in 106 AD. Forgotten for centuries until Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt's 1812 rediscovery, Petra lies on the fringe of the Wadi Aruba desert, accessible only via the narrow Siq passage.
Exploration of Petra begins with the lesser-traveled back-route from Little Petra, a scenic journey leading to the Monastery and main site. This route offers breathtaking mountain panoramas and includes landmarks like Little Petra and the Monastery. The trail involves rock-hewn steps, a plateau café stop, and a glimpse of the Monastery before descending into Petra's main valley.
For those up to the challenge, the back-route requires 2-3 hours of hiking to the Monastery and further exploration of Petra's main site. Horse carriages are available for mobility-challenged visitors within Petra's main site.

Following breakfast in Petra, we journey north along the Dead Sea road to Wadi Mujib, embarking on an exhilarating hike along the Siq Trail. En route, marvel at the stunning views of the Salt Flats at the Dead Sea's southern end. Upon reaching the Wadi Mujib visitor center, enjoy lunch (not included) before commencing the hike.
Descending into the gorge within the Wadi Mujib Nature Reserve, embark on an exciting hike through shallow waters (available from April to October). Ascend small waterfalls with installed steps, culminating at a large waterfall for relaxation. The hike typically lasts 2 to 3 hours roundtrip.
Ensure to bring a dry bag and water shoes (available for hire at the visitor center). Note: From November to March, when Siq Trail hiking isn't feasible, we'll visit the Baptism site in Bethany, believed to be where John baptized Jesus Christ. Conclude the day at our Dead Sea resort, allowing time for floating in the salty waters and poolside relaxation.

Following a restful night, we venture to nearby Madaba to admire Byzantine mosaics, notably the 'Madaba Map,' the oldest preserved map of the Holy Land. Our last stop is the ancient city of Jerash, renowned for its well-preserved Greco-Roman heritage.
